The Complex Religions
Evidence of ties to different religions has been noted in the study of Indus River Valley Civilizations. Phallic symbols, similar to that of the Hindu Shiva Lingam, have been found in Harappa. Various figures of the Mother Goddess, made out of clay have been found as well. Many seals reveal the symbol of swastika which is also found in other religions
like Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism
Hinduism
- From 1700 B.C.E. to 1100 B.C.E. they practiced to religion of Hinduism.
- They were polytheistic, which meant they believed in many Gods and Goddesses.
- The Gods and Goddesses were the rulers of certain things in their civilization.
Buddhism
- In 365 B.C.E., They began to practice the religion of Buddhism.
- They do not necessarily believe in a god, but hope to one day get to the state of Nirvana.
Jainism
- It enjoyed royal patronage and has produced worthy monks and laymen of whom any society could be proud.
- The Jain contributions to Indian architecture and art, to the preservation and enrichment of Indian literature, and to the cultivation of languages, both Aryans and Dravidians, are praiseworthy.
