The Lawbook of Manu
In the Lawbook of Manu, it states that women must not be independent of a man. As a young girl, she must always serve her father. Once she gets married, she must serve her husband. If her husband were to die, she would serve her oldest son. This proves that men were seen as more superior than women. This tradition is still in affect in some areas of the Middle East.
